Welcome Back!

Welcome Back to SENSE Art!

Students have begun this year drawing a portrait of themselves. All students from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade have been looking in mirrors and drawing what they see. On August 10th you will be able to see all the portraits at once in the "Students of SENSE" Gallery during the "Back to School" night. Make sure to check it out!

POP! Portraits

Sixth graders discussed Pop Art and the meaning of Popular Culture. We looked at Andy Warhol, probably the most famous Pop Artist. After looking at some examples of his art we began the make our own version of his silk screen images of repeating faces. The students first learned the proportions of drawing a face. What you see in this post are the students working on their portrait using a small square of paper. When they return to class next week I will have made several copies of their portrait which they will paint.

Amusement Park Designers

Second Graders looked at the shapes, colors and designs found in amusement parks. The students discussed their various experiences with fairs, carnivals, and amusement parks. Then the students set to task designing their very own park.

Ink Paintings

Second Graders learned about the East Asian art form of ink painting. The students were introduced to a bamboo ink brush and how to use it. Then the students practiced making lines with the brush. Finally, the students made a landscape painting in the tradition of one found in Japan.
