Sixth grade continued to work on their Pop Art portaits. I photocopied their drawing eight times (2 more than the six they need for the project in case of mess ups). Then the students paint each portrait different colors.
Sixth graders discussed Pop Art and the meaning of Popular Culture. We looked at Andy Warhol, probably the most famous Pop Artist. After looking at some examples of his art we began the make our own version of his silk screen images of repeating faces. The students first learned the proportions of drawing a face. What you see in this post are the students working on their portrait using a small square of paper. When they return to class next week I will have made several copies of their portrait which they will paint.
Sixth graders reviewed the Tint lesson they learned in fifth grade. This time the learned how to apply their knowledge to landscape paintings. The students learned that by adding white to a color they can create the illusion that something, in this case mountains, are far away.
Summer break has ended and students are back at school. A new year of art classes have begun as well. This year all classes have started by decorating their art folder with a multi-media self-portrait.
